Ganguly's Indian Premier League Kolkata Knight Riders dream ends

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly will not be making a shock comeback for the fourth season of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL), which will get under way at the start of next month.

The ‘Prince of Kolkata’ was surprisingly not bought by any of the IPL franchises during the player auctions in January, with most owners deeming his $400,000 asking price too high to pay for the veteran opening batsman.
However, following those player auctions, a number of team owners made inquiries to the IPL’s Governing Council to see if would be possible to still bring in players who had not been bought, such as Ganguly, only to be told that would not be allowed, unless they were replacing injured players.
"Based on the views from Franchisees, IPL Governing Council decided not to make available the unsold Indian Players from the auction," said Indian Cricket Board (BCCI )secretary N Srinivasan.
